Once you’ve settled on a shade, New York City colorist Aura Friedman, whose clients include everyone from Carolyn Murphy to Caroline Polachek and Sky Ferreira, says the only rule for dyeing your eyebrows is to match warm tones with warm tones, cool with cool. That, and be prepared to return to the salon at least once every four weeks.
It seems like just yesterday that a couple of days back a friend shared how they have toned down their dressing and speech to fit in to their workplace – which is a western business setup.This conversation sparked the inspiration for this writing.

It is liberating to yourself to be you – whatever that means – to fully step into the core of your personality—and develop that without losing sight of who you are becoming.
.With my friend, we both realised; how we have navigated in spaces that make us step out of our true self sometimes.
I have done that – tried to fit in.
It didn’t serve me nor the people I worked with.
In fact, leaning in to who you truly are and leveraging on your unique elements is exactly what will position you in the spaces you navigate. It also allows you to walk into your full power – your purpose – which is personal and individual to each one of us.
The aha moment, the experience that changed everything for me – came from working in spaces where everyone I met didn’t look like me nor think like me – it was liberating to be able to simply be myself.
To see that delivering more value to my team, peers and general circles – was transformative.
It is liberating to allow yourself to be you – whatever that means – to fully step into the core of your personality and develop that.
It is the intentional expression of self.
Normalising & validating experiences.
Sharing that.
Its powerful.
For me, the greatest gift – is being able to reconnect, reset and anchor in one of the things that is important to me: home #Africa.
Bringing that African experience wherever I go.
Its the humanity, the warmth, the values, the beauty, untold stories, the mindset…
In 2022, I hope you may :
- Take pride in discovering, learning and sharing your true self.
- Dare to rediscover, relearn, unlearn, undiscover – dare to greet the unknown.
- Allow yourself to feel, be liberated by expressing that.
- Create spaces that celebrate each unique elements we bring to the world without ranking any as inferior or superior to the other.
- Redefine normality and exotic – what is normal or exotic anyway?
